Network Installation/Hardware Supply

Installing a basic network need not cost the earth. There are many advantages and savings to be gained by installing a network in your organisation. The advantages of installing a network are as follows:

  • Speed

Networks provide a very rapid method for sharing and transferring files. Without a network, files are shared by copying them to floppy disks, then carrying or sending the disks from one computer to another. This method of transferring files is very time-consuming.

  • Cost

Networkable versions of many popular software programs are available at considerable savings when compared to buying individually licensed copies. Besides monetary savings, sharing a program on a network allows for easier upgrading of the program. The changes have to be done only once, on the file server, instead of on all the individual workstations.

  • Security

Files and programs on a network can be designated as "copy inhibit," so that you do not have to worry about illegal copying of programs. Also, passwords can be established for specific directories to restrict access to authorised users.

  • Centralised Software Management.

One of the greatest benefits of installing a network  is the fact that all of the software can be loaded on one computer (the file server). This eliminates that need to spend time and energy installing updates and tracking files on independent computers throughout.

  • Resource Sharing

Sharing resources is another area in which a network exceeds stand-alone computers. Most organisations cannot afford enough laser printers, fax machines, modems, scanners, and CD-ROM Drives for each computer. However, if these or similar peripherals are added to a network, they can be shared by many users.

  • Electronic Mail.

The presence of a network provides the hardware necessary to install an e-mail system. E-mail aids in personal and professional communication for all  personnel, and it facilitates the dissemination of general information to the entire staff. Electronic mail on a LAN can enable staff to communicate with other staff and other people. If the LAN is connected to the Internet, they can communicate with others throughout the world.

  • Flexible Access.

Networks allow staff to access their files from computers throughout the office. Staff can begin an assignment in their office, save part of it on a public access area of the network, then go and finish their work from another part of the office. Staff can also work co-operatively through the network.

Database Design

Database Design

Control and access to company information is the key to business success. AstonCare Ltd can develop a professional database to your exact requirements.

There are many 'off the shelf' business management packages on today's market. The large organisations that produce this software have to develop their programs in such a way that they are flexible enough to be applied to many business sectors. Although for certain business sectors the database may be acceptable, for others the software will full short of expectations and at best be a 'half way house' to meeting the companies needs.

Enhance your company's efficiency by investing in a custom written database or a bolt-on application that can interact with your existing systems to fill the holes that so often exist.

Why Use A Database?

Storing information in a database file has many benefits. A database doesn’t just hold information, it helps you organise and analyse the information in different ways. For example, databases allow you to group information for reports, sort information for mailing labels, count your inventory, or find a particular invoice. Computerised databases offer many additional advantages over their paper-based counterparts: speed, reliability, precision, and the ability to automate many repetitive tasks.
